Fen View Cattery- holiday home of distinction for the finest felines!

Fen View Cattery is situated in peaceful, rural surroundings at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is easily accessible from the towns of Boston, Spilsby, Skegness and Horncastle, a short drive from the main A16.

In June 2007, we became a ‘Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) Listed Cattery, one of less than 200 countrywide. ‘FAB Listed catteries have been inspected by FAB and measured up to the FAB Standard for Construction & Management ofBoarding Catteries. Both the construction and management of the cattery are taken into account and Listing is a sure sign that the standards of cat accommodation and care are excellent.

After undergoing extensive research into the best materials to use for the construction of the cattery, food grade polypropylene has been used in the cattery interior, which has superior hygiene qualities and is therefore highly desirable for areas in which the cats will have contact.  We have chosen wood for the exterior, which as a natural product is able to offer, in conjunction with a very generous level of insulation, the best protection from the heat in Summer and the cold in Winter, and is also aesthetically pleasing in a rural environment such as ours.

The cats are accommodated in individual, spacious, heated houses, which have been designed in accordance with Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) specification. Each cat house and adjoining run is large enough to accommodate 2 cats from the same household, and we also have some family houses that are suitable for up to 4 cats.

Only cats that are from the same household may share, and there are windows separating each run, thereby ensuring that cats from different households are unable to have any contact, but have a good view of their surroundings. The adjourning house areas allow privacy and your cat can retreat to this area at any time during his stay if s/he desires. Each cat house is equipped with it’s own thermostatically controlled radiator, snug bed(s) and cosy bedding, scratching post and selection of toys, and of course an unlimited supply of cuddles and care and attention! You are welcome to bring something familiar to your cat, such as bedding or a toy, to help with settling in.

A radio plays during daytime hours to help simulate the home environment, (please let us know if you think this may upset your cat!) and the garden outlook enjoys an abundance of visiting wildlife, so providing a source of stimulation and interest.

All cats are ensured a high level of attention throughout the day, including regular playtimes and human contact. All cats are cared for to the highest standards. Your cat’s usual diet is followed whilst resident in the cattery to minimise the risk of dietry upset, and in addition a teatime treat of a selection of freshly cooked food is served daily with your agreement. The proprietor has undergone training to enable her to care for cats with conditions such as diabetes, as well as cats requiring medication or with special medical or dietary requirements.

Each house and run and all equipment is meticulously disinfected with a veterinary approved high level disinfectant/cleanser after each resident leaves to ensure the highest levels of hygiene are maintained, as well as thorough daily cleaning. Litter trays are attended to at regular intervals throughout the day, and we have an excellent relationship with a local vet who is on call 24hours a day if we have any concerns about the health of your cat. All guests have the benefit of veterinary fees insurance for the whole duration of their stay, (although pre-existing conditions are not covered).
